AVP, Complex E&S Claims

Job Summary

Seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join a team as an AVP, Complex E&S Claims. In this role, you will manage a portfolio of complex, high-severity Excess & Surplus (E&S) admitted and non-admitted claims from inception through resolution. This is a hybrid position requiring three days per week in the office.

Compensation Package

  • Base Salary: $140,000 to $160,000+ (depending on experience) + bonus opportunities

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 120-140 complex, high-severity E&S claims, including a significant volume of litigated cases
  • Conduct detailed coverage analysis and apply policy language to determine liability and exposure
  • Investigate claims by reviewing documentation and coordinating with insureds, brokers, and legal counsel
  • Establish and maintain accurate reserves in accordance with company guidelines
  • Develop and execute strategic plans for claim resolution, including negotiation and settlement
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure timely and effective claim handling
  • Monitor litigation and manage defense counsel to ensure optimal outcomes
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory and company standards

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of complex claims handling experience, with a strong focus on E&S or specialty lines
  • Proven experience managing high-exposure and litigated claims
  • Strong knowledge of coverage analysis and policy interpretation
  • Demonstrated ability to manage defense counsel and litigation strategy effectively
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to independently manage a high-volume, complex caseload
  • Preferred: Juris Doctor (JD) highly preferred; industry designations such as CPCU, AIC, or SCLA are a plus
