Job Title: Underwriting/Brokerage Manager – E&S

 

Job Summary
An established wholesale insurance operation is seeking an experienced Underwriting/Brokerage Manager to lead day-to-day operations within the Excess & Surplus (E&S) space. This role blends leadership, technical underwriting, and brokerage responsibilities across a diverse range of commercial lines. The ideal candidate will bring both strategic oversight and hands-on execution, with a focus on fostering collaboration, supporting growth initiatives, and enhancing operational consistency through SOP development.

 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily underwriting activities for multiple specialty programs including Cannabis, Builders Risk, Garage, Cyber/Professional, and Property
  • Manage a mix of binding authority and brokerage business (approx. 70% binding / 30% brokerage)
  • Supervise and mentor a team of underwriters and underwriting assistants, ensuring accuracy and adherence to guidelines
  • Maintain and grow a personal book of business while supporting team production goals
  • Partner with the sales team to review and respond to new business submissions
  • Assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure high-quality service levels and foster collaboration in a remote/hybrid team environment
  • Occasionally attend in-office meetings or industry/networking events as needed

 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Active Property & Casualty license required
  • Minimum 7+ years of overall insurance experience, with at least 2 years in a Wholesale or MGA environment
  • Strong knowledge of E&S markets and underwriting for complex commercial lines
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience in underwriting or brokerage settings
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to adapt and contribute to process improvement
  • Technically proficient and comfortable working in a digital/remote environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships
  • Collaborative and team-oriented with a coaching mentality

 

Compensation Package

  • Compensation: Between $100K-$130K (based on experience)
