Field Underwriter
Job Summary
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Field Underwriter to join a team, This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with a strong background in commercial underwriting, advanced risk assessment, and agency relationship management. As a Field Underwriter, you will independently evaluate and underwrite complex and high-value risks, provide consultative support to field underwriters and agency partners, and contribute to strategic initiatives that drive profitability and growth. Weekly travel within a 3–5 hour radius is required, and a company vehicle will be provided.

Responsibilities

Advanced Underwriting Execution:
- Independently underwrite and price complex and specialized commercial risks within expanded authority levels.
- Ensure profitable growth by applying advanced judgment and technical expertise.

Risk Analysis & Technical Consultation:
- Conduct in-depth risk analysis using financials, loss control reports, industry trends, and predictive data models.
- Provide consultative guidance to field underwriters and agents on risk mitigation and coverage solutions.

Territory Management:
- Manage a field underwriting territory focused on new business production.
- Align underwriting strategy with profitability goals and identify trends to adjust approaches as needed.

Agency Engagement & Strategic Support:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key agency partners.
- Conduct in-person meetings, support complex negotiations, and participate in strategic planning with agencies.

Market Intelligence & Innovation:
- Monitor market developments, emerging risks, and competitor activity.
- Provide feedback to influence the evolution of underwriting guidelines, tools, and practices.

Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing:
- Serve as a technical resource and mentor to field underwriters.
- Share best practices and support skill development across the team.

Program & Product Expertise:
- Partner with Territory Managers and Learning & Development teams to conduct product training sessions.
- Provide feedback on product performance and market fit.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (advanced designations such as CPCU or ARM are preferred).
- 6–8+ years of experience in commercial underwriting, particularly with complex risks.
- Exceptional analytical, consultative, and communication skills.
- Ability to travel regularly within the assigned territory.
- Residency in South Texas (San Antonio or Austin areas preferred). Relocation packages are not provided.
