Job Summary:

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant with 3–5 years of experience for a 12 month contract, primarily focused on investment accounting, along with core general accounting responsibilities. This role will support the accounting, reporting, and reconciliation of the company’s investment portfolio while contributing to overall financial close and reporting processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform accounting for investment activities, including purchases, sales, maturity, and income recognition
  • Prepare and post journal entries related to investment transactions (interest, dividends, amortization, fair value adjustments)
  • Reconcile investment holdings, cash balances, and income with custodians and internal systems
  • Monitor investment portfolio activity and ensure accurate recording in the general ledger
  • Analyze investment performance and provide variance explanations
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and investment policies
  • Support audits by preparing investment-related documentation and responding to auditor inquiries
  • Assist with audit requests and preparation of supporting schedules
  • Assist in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure proper documentation of transactions
  • Support financial statement preparation and reporting requirements
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities as needed
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and company accounting policies
  • Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience
  • Knowledge of financial instruments (fixed income, equities, basic derivatives)
  • Understanding of accounting treatments for investments (amortized cost, fair value, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and reconciliation processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting system QuickBooks
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Compensation Package

  • Hourly: $34 to $36 per hour (depending on experience)
