Job Summary

Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriter to join a specialized marine insurance program focused on the transportation. This is a fully remote, desk underwriting role where you will evaluate submissions, assess risks, and make sound underwriting decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in inland marine, ocean cargo, agricultural, or farm-related risks, with the ability to apply their expertise to transit exposures.

This position offers the opportunity to focus exclusively on underwriting, as business development and referral generation are managed by the program's leadership. Compensation Package

• Base Salary: $150,000–$175,000, commensurate with experience.
• Work Arrangement: Fully remote, anywhere in the United States.
• Focus: Pure desk underwriting with no sales or business development responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and underwrite new business submissions involving livestock transportation.
• Assess inland marine, ocean cargo, agricultural, and livestock-related transportation exposures.
• Analyze risk characteristics, transportation methods, routes, transit conditions, and potential loss exposures.
• Determine appropriate coverage terms, conditions, limits, deductibles, and pricing based on underwriting guidelines.
• Review applications, supporting documentation, and loss histories to determine insurability.
• Identify potential risk concerns and recommend appropriate underwriting solutions.
• Manage a consistent flow of referrals and submissions provided by program leadership.
• Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and ensure compliance with established guidelines and procedures.
• Collaborate with program leadership to support profitable growth and the development of the livestock transportation portfolio.

Qualifications/Requirements

• 5–10+ years of commercial insurance underwriting experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in inland marine, ocean cargo, agricultural, farm, or related specialty underwriting.
• Strong technical underwriting and risk assessment capabilities.
• Proven ability to evaluate complex or specialized transportation exposures.
• Experience establishing coverage terms, evaluating pricing, and making independent underwriting decisions.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
