Desk Underwriter & Underwriting Assistant

Job Summary

Seeking highly motivated and skilled professionals to join an underwriting team. Two exciting opportunities available: an Experienced Desk Underwriter and an Underwriting Assistant. These roles are ideal for individuals with a strong background in transportation and excess underwriting, or those with a passion for supporting underwriting operations. Both positions offer competitive compensation packages and the chance to work closely with a dynamic and entrepreneurial team.

Compensation Package

Experienced Desk Underwriter

  • Base Salary: Up to $210,000
  • Bonus: ~10% of base salary
  • Total Compensation: Base Salary + Bonus

Underwriting Assistant

  • Base Salary: $60,000 - $100,000

Responsibilities

Experienced Desk Underwriter

  • Underwrite transportation and excess insurance risks with a focus on profitability and growth.
  • Collaborate closely with the production team to ensure seamless operations.
  • Maintain strong relationships with brokers and other stakeholders.
  • Analyze and assess risk exposures, pricing, and coverage terms.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines and performance goals.

Underwriting Assistant

  • Provide administrative and operational support to the underwriting team.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing underwriting documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with brokers and other team members.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry and record-keeping.
  • Support the team in achieving underwriting objectives.

Qualifications/Requirements

Experienced Desk Underwriter

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation underwriting.
  • Strong background in carriers, MGAs, and binding underwriting.
  • Proven ability to work independently with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Remote work is available, but candidates based in Charlotte, NC are preferred.

Underwriting Assistant

  • Some prior experience in underwriting or a related field.
  • Familiarity with carriers, MGAs, and binding underwriting is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a "get-it-done" attitude.
  • Candidates based in Charlotte, NC are preferred.
