Paralegal
Job Summary
A leading direct writer of auto insurance is looking for a full-time paralegal to join our new and expanding in-house law firm! This role will assist a small team of attorneys managing insurance defense cases. The ideal candidate will have experience with cases involving No-Fault/PIP, UM/UIM, and Bodily Injury Suits.
Compensation: $60,000 - $90,000
Location: Southfield / Detroit, MI
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm. We offer a hybrid work schedule: team members work onsite four days a week and have the flexibility to work remotely one day each week.
Essential Job Functions
- Support 2-4 attorneys with discovery-related tasks, such as collecting medical records, preparing medical summaries and chronologies, handling appeals, and assisting with trial preparation.
- Communicate, both in writing and verbally, with attorneys, witnesses, and clients to schedule or confirm appearances.
- Review, edit, and adjust the litigation calendar, then confirm depositions and court appearances.
- Draft legal documents and pleadings, including deposition notices, subpoenas, authorizations, motions, and certifications.
- Ability to thrive in a high-volume environment, managing an electronic case load.
- Must be organized and capable of multitasking while effectively prioritizing work.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- College Degree (4yr preferred)
- At least 1 year of experience working as a Paralegal in Personal Injury or Bodily Injury, with a strong understanding of legal procedures, case management, and supporting attorneys in litigation or appeals.
- Specific experience interacting with the Court, drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery; coordinating medical exams, scheduling court appearances and discovery, and managing all aspects of case defense from inception through trial.
- Paralegal Certification or equivalent education/experience required.
- Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Legal/law firm experience preferred in litigation or insurance defense. Candidates must possess excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills, as well as the ability to multitask.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and spreadsheet analysis.
