Paralegal
Job Summary
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paralegal to join their team. Under the direction of the Chief Legal Officer, the Paralegal will provide specialized legal and administrative support across legal, claims, governance, and operational functions. This role plays a key part in managing legal and contractual matters, ensuring compliance, and supporting efficient day-to-day operations. The main responsibilities will be responding to requests under the Public Records Act and pursuant to subpoenas issued. The position will also be responsible for maintaining all contracts entered. This will include review and recommendations on contract language. Assistance may be needed with the issuance of Certificates of Insurance.
Compensation Package
- Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 per year

Responsibilities
- Review, draft, revise, and help negotiate contracts, agreements, amendments, and other legal documents related to the JPA Property & Liability Program.
- Evaluate contract language for consistency, legal sufficiency, risk transfer, indemnification, insurance requirements, and compliance standards and public agency requirements.
- Conduct legal and regulatory research related to public entity liability, contract law, Education Code, Government Code, the California Public Records Act, records retention, and other matters.
- Assist with the coordination and response to California Public Records Act requests, including gathering records, tracking deadlines, and supporting compliant responses.
- Support claims and litigation activities by organizing files, tracking deadlines, preparing materials, and coordinating with outside counsel, third-party administrators, brokers, investigators, and consultants.
- Prepare legal correspondence, summaries, reports, and Board or committee materials for attorney review and organizational use.
- Monitor legal, contractual, litigation, and compliance deadlines and support timely follow-up and resolution.
- Serve as a liaison with internal departments and external partners on routine legal, contractual, claims, and compliance matters.
Qualifications/Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field (Paralegal Degree or Juris Doctorate preferred).
- Contract review and drafting experience
- Claim management or litigation experience with schools, colleges, or public entities preferred.
- Familiarity with California Government and Education codes preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and recordkeeping skills.
