Job Description
Senior Underwriter – Medical
The Senior Underwriter is responsible for performing accurate and timely financial analysis to support pricing and oversight of medical, stop-loss, and ancillary products for fully insured and self-funded health plans. This role also involves mentoring underwriting team members and ensuring smooth operational workflows and adherence to compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities

Develops new business and renewal proposals, including stop-loss quotes and comprehensive plan renewals.

Analyzes claims experience and utilization data to identify trends and support future pricing strategies.

Oversees day-to-day activities and workflow of assigned analysts and underwriting support staff.

Audits and reviews work for accuracy and adherence to internal standards.

Provides quality assurance and resolves discrepancies or complaints as needed.

Coordinates team scheduling, project assignments, and workload distribution.

Implements and supports training, performance, and operational initiatives to maximize team productivity.

Supports leadership with reports, insights, and analysis on special projects.
Requirements

Strong expertise in medical and/or stop-loss underwriting.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.

Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and organized.

Strong time management and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a collaborative environment.

Proven track record of meeting or exceeding performance standards.
Experience

Minimum of 5 years of relevant underwriting experience or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge.
