Personal Lines Insurance Wholesale Underwriter
Job Summary
A leading insurance MGA is seeking a Personal Lines Wholesale Underwriter to join its team. This role focuses on evaluating and underwriting personal lines risks while partnering closely with retail agents and carrier partners. The position involves both new and renewal business, with an emphasis on delivering competitive solutions and maintaining strong relationships within the wholesale marketplace.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate personal lines submissions, assessing risk factors such as property details, claims history, and applicant information
- Determine appropriate terms, conditions, and pricing in alignment with underwriting guidelines and carrier appetite
- Underwrite standard and complex risks, applying sound judgment and customized approaches when needed
- Provide quotes and coverage options to retail agents in a timely manner
- Bind coverage within delegated authority and ensure all documentation aligns with carrier requirements
- Issue policies, endorsements, and renewals accurately and efficiently
- Serve as a primary point of contact for agents, offering guidance on coverage, underwriting guidelines, and program details
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with carrier partners and retail agencies
- Review and maintain complete underwriting files, ensuring all required documentation is collected and compliant
- Monitor upcoming renewals, identify retention opportunities, and provide competitive options to maintain business
- Stay informed on market trends, carrier updates, and changes in personal lines products
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Prior experience in personal lines underwriting, ideally within the wholesale or MGA environment
- Strong understanding of personal lines products, including homeowners, auto, umbrella, and specialty coverages
- Proficiency with underwriting systems, agency management software, and Microsoft Office tools
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess risk and make sound underwriting decisions
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills when working with agents, brokers, and carriers
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Holds an active P&C (Property and Casualty) insurance license
