Healthcare Underwriting Supervisor
Job Summary
Seeking a Healthcare Underwriting Supervisor to join a team and support the management of the healthcare program underwriting operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring the profitability and quality of the insurance programs while fostering strong relationships with producers and internal teams. The Healthcare Underwriting Supervisor will oversee underwriting staff, provide training and guidance, and ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines.
Compensation Package
- Salary: $149,500 annually

Responsibilities
- Manage the daily underwriting of the property and casualty book of business within delegated authority, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and appropriate risk selection and pricing.
- Oversee underwriting activities through internal referrals, file reviews, and periodic audits.
- Supervise and guide underwriting staff, including performance evaluations, training, and professional development.
- Review and approve new business submissions, exception renewals, and transactions exceeding underwriters' authority.
- Monitor rate targets, pricing standards, risk control, and claims activities within the assigned territory or book of business.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager to establish and communicate underwriting philosophies and systems.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with agency distributors and internal teams.
- Represent the company at agent meetings, conventions, and trade shows as needed.
- Assist in recruiting and onboarding new underwriting associates.
- Prepare and submit management reports and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in insurance, business, or a related field preferred, or equivalent industry-related experience.
- Certifications: AU, CPCU, ARM designation, or comparable higher insurance education (attained or in progress).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of commercial lines underwriting or related experience in an insurance company or agency.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
- Licensing: Must have or obtain a property-casualty license within 3 months of hire and maintain it.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of underwriting authority, rules, risk selection, and pricing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Leadership and coaching abilities with a focus on team development.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with agency distributors and internal teams.
- Analytical and mathematical skills to assess risk and pricing.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
