Responsibilities
- Oversee underwriting strategies to ensure profitability, appropriate pricing, risk selection, and renewal retention.
- Develop and monitor underwriting guidelines, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
- Conduct market analysis and trend evaluations to inform strategic planning and decision-making.
- Underwrite, maintain, and grow a profitable book of business, including setting and achieving pricing targets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with distribution partners and internal stakeholders.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to the underwriting team, fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth.
- Collaborate with internal teams to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
- Analyze portfolio metrics and communicate results to executive teams, recommending adjustments as needed.
- Assist in the creation and execution of annual department budgets.
- Execute talent management strategies to enhance employee engagement, job satisfaction, and team performance.
Qualifications/Requirements
Skills/Experience
- A minimum of 7 years of experience underwriting workers' compensation risks up to $750,000.
- Proven experience in supervising, mentoring, and developing underwriting teams.
- Strong knowledge of workers' compensation ratemaking principles and the ability to effectively utilize actuarial resources.
- Exceptional analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Power BI, and other data analytical tools.
- Strong active listening, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills for team and client relationship development.
- Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to understand performance metrics and implement profitable growth strategies.
- Independent thinker with a forward-thinking mindset and the ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
