Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Underwriting to lead and shape an underwriting strategies and operations. You will be responsible for developing and executing underwriting principles, managing risk selection, and maintaining strong relationships with distribution partners. Responsibilities

  • Oversee underwriting strategies to ensure profitability, appropriate pricing, risk selection, and renewal retention.
  • Develop and monitor underwriting guidelines, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  • Conduct market analysis and trend evaluations to inform strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Underwrite, maintain, and grow a profitable book of business, including setting and achieving pricing targets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with distribution partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the underwriting team, fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
  • Analyze portfolio metrics and communicate results to executive teams, recommending adjustments as needed.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of annual department budgets.
  • Execute talent management strategies to enhance employee engagement, job satisfaction, and team performance.

Qualifications/Requirements

Skills/Experience

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience underwriting workers' compensation risks up to $750,000.
  • Proven experience in supervising, mentoring, and developing underwriting teams.
  • Strong knowledge of workers' compensation ratemaking principles and the ability to effectively utilize actuarial resources.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Power BI, and other data analytical tools.
  • Strong active listening, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills for team and client relationship development.
  • Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to understand performance metrics and implement profitable growth strategies.
  • Independent thinker with a forward-thinking mindset and the ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
