ABOUT US:
The Jonus Group specializes in placing top talent within the insurance industry. We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter for one of our esteemed insurance carrier clients. This role is ideal for a skilled underwriter who excels at assessing complex risks, developing profitable underwriting strategies, and building strong relationships with brokers and agents.
COMPENSATION:
- $110,000 - $130,000/year based on experience
- Up to 10% annual bonus
- Full medical benefits
- Flexibility to work remotely (looking for someone who lives in Southern Illinois)
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or a related field; professional designations (e.g., CPCU, ARM) preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting, with a focus on complex risks.
- Strong knowledge of commercial insurance products, underwriting principles, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Experience working with E&S (excess & surplus) lines or admitted markets is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess high-value risks.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills to build relationships with brokers and clients.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Underwrite new and renewal commercial business within assigned authority levels.
- Assess and evaluate property risks, including high-value buildings, industrial complexes, and large commercial portfolios.
- Maintain a profitable book of business by monitoring risk selection, pricing adequacy, and loss ratios.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and key distribution partners.
- Negotiate policy terms, conditions, and pricing to secure profitable business while meeting customer needs.
- Stay up to date on commercial property market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks.
- Ensure underwriting decisions comply with company policies, state regulations, and industry standards.
- Maintain thorough documentation of underwriting decisions, policy terms, and risk analysis.
