VP of Transportation Insurance – Wholesale/MGA
Job Summary
An established wholesale/MGA organization is seeking a strategic and experienced VP of Transportation Insurance to lead a seasoned team. This role requires a hands-on leader who can drive growth, ensure efficient operations, and strengthen carrier relationships within the transportation sector. The ideal candidate will be a “player/coach” who provides both leadership and active participation in daily operations while focusing on service standards and turnaround times.
Compensation Package
- Compensation: Between $130K - $165K+ (depending on experience).

Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of experienced professionals, providing mentorship, performance management, and career development support.
- Hire, train, and develop staff to maintain a high-performing, collaborative work environment.
- Ensure departmental service standards are met, with particular attention to turnaround time and quality of work.
- Prepare and manage annual budgets, including premium, income, expenses, and salary allocations; monitor performance against goals.
- Analyze underwriting metrics to identify areas of improvement and development opportunities.
- Review underwriting results to determine improvement plan and new business opportunities to increase the quality of the book of business.
- Cultivate new transportation carrier relationships to expand market capacity and strengthen product offerings.
- Oversee product enhancements aligned with industry trends and long-term profitability goals.
- Conduct quality control audits of assigned accounts and ensure compliance of all underwriting policies and regulations.
- Recommend process improvements to increase productivity, profitability, and operational efficiency.
- Support new business development by identifying opportunities, writing new business, and maintaining agency relationships.
- Willingness/ability to travel as needed for client meetings and business engagements.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of Commercial Transportation underwriting experience required.
- Prior leadership experience with direct reports is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field preferred.
- Professional designations (e.g., CPCU, ARM, MS/MA) strongly preferred.
- Must have experience working within an MGA environment.
- Active E&S license, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and carrier systems; ability to adapt quickly to new applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
- Customer-focused with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
