Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Wholesale Underwriting Manager to lead and oversee the underwriting team responsible for evaluating and managing risks associated with personal lines insurance products distributed through wholesale channels. This role requires deep technical underwriting expertise, strategic thinking, and strong leadership capabilities to ensure profitable growth and high service standards across the business.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Team Management:

    • Lead and mentor a team of personal lines underwriters and support staff.

    • Set performance goals, monitor results, and provide training and development opportunities.

    • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Underwriting Oversight:

    • Oversee underwriting decisions for personal lines products (e.g., homeowners, auto, renters, umbrella).

    • Develop and enforce underwriting guidelines and procedures.

    • Review complex or high-exposure risks and provide guidance on acceptability and pricing.

  • Strategic Execution:

    • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute underwriting strategies aligned with business goals.

    • Identify market trends and recommend changes to products, pricing, or underwriting rules.

  • Relationship Management:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale partners, agents, brokers, and carriers.

    • Provide technical support and guidance to partners on underwriting-related matters.

  • Compliance & Reporting:

    • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal underwriting standards.

    • Monitor portfolio performance and prepare reports for leadership on key metrics and profitability.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, Finance, or related field (CPCU, CIC or other industry designations preferred).

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of underwriting experience, with at least 3 years in a management or leadership role.

  • Deep knowledge of personal lines insurance products and risk assessment.

  • Experience in wholesale insurance or working with MGAs is a strong plus.

  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
