The successful candidate must be able to build credibility and influence positive change with insureds, agency partners, and internal stakeholders. Strong relationship-building skills, business acumen, and the ability to gain buy-in and drive safety and risk management initiatives are critical to success in this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive risk control evaluations for existing and prospective commercial insurance accounts, with an emphasis on complex operations and industry-specific exposures.
  • Identify workplace hazards, evaluate operational risks, and develop practical recommendations to improve safety and reduce the potential for losses.
  • Build trusted relationships with policyholders, agency partners, underwriters, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Consult with customer leadership and employees to strengthen safety programs, improve risk management practices, and encourage implementation of recommended improvements.
  • Prepare detailed risk assessment reports, document findings, and communicate recommendations to customers and underwriting teams.
  • Analyze loss data, operational practices, and emerging exposures to support underwriting decisions, account selection, pricing, and customer retention.
  • Provide safety training, presentations, coaching, and educational resources tailored to customer operations and business needs.
  • Communicate complex risk control concepts in a clear, practical, and influential manner to diverse audiences.
  • Partner with underwriting and agency representatives to support account development, customer engagement, and business growth initiatives.
  • Monitor changes in customer operations and communicate material risk developments to appropriate internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate risk control services across internal teams when additional resources or specialized expertise are needed.
  • Contribute to internal training, mentoring, safety resources, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage territory activities, customer visits, service priorities, and follow-up independently while maintaining strong communication with internal partners.

Qualifications

  • Approximately 7+ years of experience in risk control, loss control, safety consulting, or a related field; candidates with varying experience levels will be considered.
  • Strong industry experience in Oil & Gas and/or Forestry operations is highly preferred. Experience in commercial construction or other complex industrial environments may also be relevant.
  • Working knowledge of operational safety programs, hazard identification, loss prevention, and applicable industry regulations.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and relevant state and federal safety requirements is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Professional designations such as CSP, ARM, or other relevant safety or risk management credentials are preferred, or willingness to pursue applicable certifications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical information to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility, establish strong customer relationships, and influence behavioral or operational change.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, self-awareness, business judgment, and consultative problem-solving skills.
  • Experience delivering safety training, facilitating discussions, coaching leadership teams, or mentoring others.
  • A customer-focused approach with the ability to tailor recommendations to an organization's operational needs and business objectives.
