Director of Finance Position Summary:

The Director of Finance is responsible for leading the agency’s financial strategy, planning, reporting, and overall financial operations. This role provides executive leadership across budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, financial analysis, accounting, and strategic decision-making to support the organization’s long-term growth and profitability. Partnering closely with executive leadership, the Director of Finance will drive operational efficiencies, ensure financial and regulatory compliance, and support key business initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions.

The ideal candidate is a strategic and hands-on financial leader with a strong understanding of insurance agency operations, including commission-based revenue models, carrier relationships, producer compensation structures, and agency performance metrics. They will possess the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights that drive informed business decisions and sustainable growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the agency's overall financial strategy, long-range planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling to support organizational goals and growth initiatives.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations related to investments, acquisitions, operational improvements, and business performance.
  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financial close processes, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, audits, tax filings, and internal financial controls.
  • Monitor agency profitability, key performance metrics, commission and fee income, producer compensation, carrier receivables, and premium trust accounts.
  • Develop dashboards, reporting tools, and data-driven insights to evaluate performance by department, producer, line of business, and office location.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop finance and accounting teams while fostering cross-functional collaboration and accountability.
  • Drive process improvements, optimize financial systems and agency management platforms, and enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Support enterprise risk management, business continuity planning, and acquisition activities, including due diligence, valuation, and integration efforts.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • CPA, CMA, MBA, or other relevant professional designation preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience.
  • 3+ years in a senior financial leadership role.
  • Experience within the insurance industry, insurance agency, brokerage, or financial services environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and strategic planning.
  • Experience managing audits, tax compliance, and financial reporting.

 Skills:

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial management principles.
  • Experience with agency management systems such as Applied Epic, Vertafore AMS360, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Knowledge of insurance agency revenue models, commission structures, and carrier relationships preferred.
  • Advanced financial analysis and modeling capabilities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
  • Ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights

 Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base salary: $95K–$135K with some flexibility for the right candidate plus a 4-6% bonus
