Job Description
Our client, an AV-rated insurance defense litigation firm with locations in Arizona and New Mexico, is seeking a Partner-Level Attorney to take ownership of complex carrier matters, manage strategic carrier relationships, mentor associates, and contribute to the firm’s continued growth. They are looking for an attorney who can run their own book, be trusted by carrier clients at the executive level, and help build the firm. You should be comfortable being measured by output rather than hours-in-chair, and know how to drive litigation.
Responsibilities
Carry a full docket of insurance defense matters from intake through resolution. You will work directly with carrier clients, manage litigation guidelines and reporting requirements, and contribute to a team of attorneys who hold each other to high standards on billing, deadlines, and client service. This may include:
- End-to-end ownership of complex carrier defense matters — strategy, depositions, motions, mediation, trial
- Strategic management of one or more carrier client relationships at the senior or executive level
- Mentorship and supervision of associates and junior attorneys
- Business development — deepening existing carrier relationships and originating new ones
- Compliance with carrier litigation guidelines, billing protocols, and reporting requirements
- Contribution to firm operations, hiring, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications
- Active bar license in Arizona and/or New Mexico (or eligibility for prompt admission)
- 9+ years of civil litigation experience, primarily insurance defense
- Significant first-chair trial or arbitration experience
- Demonstrable carrier or carrier-panel defense background, ideally with senior-level relationships
- Track record of consistent, compliant billing practices and clean realization
- Experience supervising and mentoring associates
- Comfort with productivity-based compensation
Preferred Qualifications
- Portable book of carrier business or established relationships likely to follow
- Existing relationships within the AZ/NM carrier community at the claims executive or in-house counsel level
- Specific subject-matter expertise (general liability, professional liability, complex coverage, construction defect, or similar)
- Experience contributing to firm operations or strategic initiatives
Compensation
1,900-hour annual billing expectation. Base salaries for partners is between $155,000 and $170,000, but there is an opportunity to earn more for attorneys that wish to work more, as our compensation philosophy ties to each attorney's billings, with partners taking home 36% of their collections in excess of their 1,900-hour target. Partners drive most of their upside through stretch hours, business development, and originations — there is no salary cap, and partners with strong books and clean realization significantly out-earn the baseline.
