Underwriting Manager, Trainees and Underwriting Support
Job Summary
Seeking a dedicated and experienced Underwriting Manager to lead early career trainee program and underwriting support team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in mentoring and coaching underwriting trainees and assistant underwriting staff, ensuring consistency in processes and fostering a robust talent pipeline for future career development.

Responsibilities
- Directly manage and oversee the underwriting trainees and assistant underwriting staff.
- Carry out managerial responsibilities in alignment with company policies and applicable laws, including:
- Interviewing, hiring, and training employees.
- Planning, assigning, and directing work.
- Appraising performance and providing constructive feedback.
- Rewarding and disciplining employees as necessary.
- Addressing complaints and resolving issues effectively.
- Support production, profitability, and maintain strong relationships with agents.
- Collaborate with underwriting leadership to establish consistent career pathing requirements and standards to prepare staff for advanced underwriting roles.
- Partner with the Training and Development team to provide and monitor work assignments that reinforce training concepts and ensure mastery.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10-15 years of relevant experience in commercial property and casualty (P&C) insurance underwriting and management.
- Proven work experience as a Senior Underwriter or equivalent skill level position.
- Background in excess and surplus lines is highly beneficial.
- Professional designations such as CPCU, ASLI, AIC, or completion of other insurance-related courses are preferred.
