Job Description
Controller
Location: Orlando, FL
Compensation: $125K – $160K + Bonus + Profit Share / Safe Harbor
Work Schedule: On-site
Start: July / August
Overview
We are partnering with a well-established, family-owned insurance agency in Orlando that is seeking a hands-on Controller to join its leadership team. This is a unique opportunity to step into a high-impact role that directly supports ownership, with broad visibility across financial operations. This is not a purely oversight position. The right individual will be comfortable rolling up their sleeves, managing day-to-day accounting activities, and serving as a trusted partner to the President and CFO (during transition).
What You’ll Do
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including commissions, carrier payables, collections, and account reconciliation.
- Oversee agency bill workflows and carrier remittances within a “pay when paid” structure.
- Handle high-volume / high-value cash flow accounts ($10M+) with accuracy and accountability.
- Partner closely with ownership on financial visibility, reporting, and operational decisions.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance workflows.
- Act as a liaison with Vertafore / AMS, exploring system capabilities, efficiencies, and emerging tools (including AI integrations)
- Assist in resolving discrepancies, managing collections, and maintaining strong client/account relationships.
- Stay informed on market trends, attend industry events, and bring insights back to leadership.
- Operate as a true “utility player”-supporting across functions where needed.
What/Who They’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Prior experience within the insurance industry (agency experience strongly preferred).
- Hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable, owning both tactical and strategic responsibilities.
- Familiarity with agency management systems (Vertafore / AMS preferred).
- Technically capable and open to leveraging systems to improve efficiency.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to manage discrepancies and complex account activity.
- Comfortable working in a small, close-knit office environment.
- Collaborative, low-ego, team-first approach.
- Naturally curious, interested in improving processes and exploring new ideas.
