Assistant Controller
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support accounting operations within an insurance-focused organization. This role will play a key part in overseeing financial reporting, statutory compliance, reinsurance accounting, and system-related processes. The position partners closely with leadership to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and regulatory compliance across all accounting functions.
Responsibilities
- Support implementation and ongoing administration of financial and subledger systems, including configuration, rule management, and exception review
- Oversee underwriting-related accounting processes, including premium recognition, reserves, and related calculations
- Lead preparation and coordination of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements and related filings
- Serve as a primary liaison with external auditors and consultants for financial reporting and regulatory requirements
- Assist with documentation and support for regulatory examinations and audits
- Manage reinsurance accounting processes, including tracking, reconciliation, and settlement activities
- Maintain accurate schedules and documentation related to reinsurance agreements and transactions
- Partner with leadership on GAAP close processes and financial reporting across multiple entities
- Support financial systems administration and workflow management for month-end close processes
- Oversee disbursements, payment processing, and reconciliation activities
- Identify and resolve discrepancies, errors, and compliance-related issues
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, policies, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred
- Experience in insurance accounting, preferably within a carrier environment
- Strong knowledge of statutory accounting principles and financial reporting requirements
- Experience with reinsurance accounting concepts and structures
- Background in multi-entity accounting and consolidations
- Familiarity with financial systems, ERP platforms, and accounting tools
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Compensation Package
- Salary: $125K - $190K + Bonus (based on experience)
