Subrogation Unit Manager
Job Summary
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Subrogation Unit Manager to lead and oversee a property claims subrogation function in a multi-state and multi-line environment. This role involves supervising subrogation staff and vendors, developing recovery strategies, ensuring compliance with company policies and state regulations, and maximizing subrogation recoveries. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in property claims and subrogation management, with a proven ability to lead teams and drive results.
Compensation Package
- Salary Range: $90,000 - $120,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
- Additional Compensation: Discretionary annual bonus

Responsibilities
- Oversee all property subrogation activities, including identification, investigation, evaluation, negotiation, arbitration, and litigation of recovery opportunities.
- Manage and provide guidance to subrogation staff, third-party administrators (TPAs), collection agencies, arbitration forums, and legal counsel.
- Develop, update, and enforce subrogation policies and procedures.
- Grant authority and provide technical direction on liability evaluation, recovery strategies, and settlement negotiations.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and state regulatory requirements related to subrogation and recovery practices.
- Monitor and report key subrogation metrics, including recovery ratios, cycle times, and litigation outcomes.
- Coordinate reinsurance recovery reporting as applicable.
- Conduct quality control and auditing of subrogation files to ensure proper documentation and maximized recovery potential.
- Identify training needs and provide technical development for subrogation staff.
- Collaborate with property claims units, underwriting, legal, finance, reinsurance, and external partners to ensure timely identification and preservation of recovery rights.
- Develop and execute catastrophe-related subrogation strategies, including large loss and multi-party recovery efforts.
- Represent the company as a Corporate Representative in mediations, arbitrations, depositions, or court proceedings as required.
- Travel as needed to company locations, vendor sites, claim sites, and legal proceedings.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Experience: 7–10 years of progressive experience in property claims and/or subrogation management, with a preference for experience in FL, TX, and CA.
- Extensive knowledge of property claim and subrogation processes, including liability analysis, comparative negligence, product liability, contract transfer, and arbitration procedures.
- Proven ability to evaluate large and complex recovery opportunities.
- Prior field claim and management experience in an insurance company or large TPA environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with industry-standard systems such as Xactimate and Guidewire.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Driving Record.
