ISI Underwriter
Job Summary
Seeking a highly skilled and motivated ISI Underwriter to join a team. In this role, you will take the lead in shaping a high-performing book of business by driving profitable growth, fostering strong broker relationships, and showcasing the industry-leading value. This position requires a blend of analytical precision, strategic decision-making, and exceptional communication skills to ensure every account reflects strong underwriting discipline and delivers outstanding results.

Responsibilities
Own Your Portfolio
- Achieve or exceed new business premium and loss ratio goals.
- Maintain high renewal account retention rates while meeting premium and loss ratio targets.
- Collaborate with the Business Development team on new account opportunities.
- Utilize excellent negotiation skills to meet account-level objectives.
- Focus on healthcare, education, and public entity verticals across Central, MO, IL, IN, and CO.
- Manage a renewal book of hundreds of accounts with annual payments and no endorsements.
- Support new business growth with a focus on retaining policies.
- Travel less than 10% of the time for key conferences or broker visits (approximately four times a year).
Be a Technical Authority
- Apply expertise in primary and excess workers’ compensation, risk analysis, actuarial concepts, and policy structure.
- Adhere to underwriting guidelines and authority levels with consistency and confidence.
- Conduct thorough risk analysis, establish appropriate terms, and document decisions effectively.
- Evaluate guaranteed cost exposures and submit strategic referrals when necessary.
Lead & Elevate the Team
- Take ownership of key functional areas such as compliance, workflow and process optimization, and project participation.
- Contribute to user testing and other team initiatives.
Build Strong Relationships
- Provide exceptional service to brokers by being responsive, informed, and proactive.
- Meet or exceed service standards for submission management, quote deadlines, and communication.
- Strengthen broker partnerships to enhance new and renewal opportunities.

Qualifications/Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, preferably in Insurance or Business.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in workers’ compensation insurance.
- Experience in primary or excess underwriting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and operational systems.
