Job Summary
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant/Bookkeeper to join their team. The ideal candidate has insurance agency experience and has experience using the agency management system Applied Epic. You will manage full-cycle accounting processes from maintaining accurate financial records, handling accounts payable, and financial reporting. The accountant/bookkeeper will work closely with management to ensure timely and accurate reporting, compliance with GAAP, and smooth ongoing financial operations. It is critical that the candidate has experience using Applied Epic.
Key Responsibilities
Agency & Insurance Accounting
- Manage premium trust account(s) and operating accounts in accordance with insurance regulations and agency procedures.
- Record, reconcile, and track client premium payments, return premiums, and carrier payables.
- Reconcile carrier statements and commission statements
- Track and reconcile agency commissions, contingent commissions, and bonuses.
- Process producer commission calculations and payouts.
- Ensure proper segregation of trust funds vs operating funds.
Bookkeeping & General Accounting
- Maintain the general ledger, journal entries, and chart of accounts.
- Perform monthly bank and trust account reconciliations.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Manage client credits, suspense, and unapplied cash.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports.
- Support CPA and tax preparer with clean books, schedules, and documentation.
Payroll & Compensation (if applicable)
- Assist with or process payroll, bonuses, and commission compensation.
- Track draws, advances, and producer chargebacks.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with state insurance trust accounting rules.
- Maintain proper audit trails and documentation.
- Assist with internal audits, carrier audits, and DOI audits.
- Monitor and improve internal financial controls.
Systems & Reporting
- Work in accounting and agency management systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Applied Epic, AMS360, etc.).
- Produce management reports for leadership (profitability by producer, line of business, carrier, etc.).
- Help improve financial workflows, automation, and controls.
Tracking & Managing Insurance Licenses for agency & agents
Managing and filing surplus lines taxes for the agency.
Salary is negotiable depending on experience
