Commercial Lines Product Manager

Lead the development of new commercial lines programs in a highly technical, hands-on role, responsible for creating, enhancing, and implementing comprehensive insurance products that meet market needs and drive business growth. Identify target market segments and perform industry and competitor analysis, translating business objectives into product strategies and roadmaps from concept through program delivery for production. Oversee all aspects of multistate product development, including pricing, coverage, rules, and guidelines, ensuring compliance with state laws and regulations in each state where the programs are offered.

 

Salary:  $125K - $140K

  • Lead the product development process to create initial rate, rule, and form filings for new products as assigned by department leadership.
  • Gather and incorporate input from Sales, Risk Management, Actuarial, Underwriting, Claims, and Systems. Ensure Legal and Regulatory Compliance throughout the product development process to properly address needs and concerns, resulting in comprehensive products that generate consistent profit while meeting market demands.
  • Manage the filing processes for all new programs by coordinating, compiling, and submitting responses to regulator inquiries and requests for information on filings within established timeframes.
  • Communicate details of new product filings to relevant internal departments as needed, including providing programming requirements for implementing new programs into the front- and back-end policy administration systems.
  • Develop requirements for data reports needed to monitor program trends and key performance indicators, and collaborate with the Reporting team to collect data from all relevant systems. Ensure that the data remains accurate throughout the life of the reports.
  • Use advanced data collection and analysis skills to assess how effectively program initiatives meet their stated goals.
  • Responsible for validating system programming before and after promotion related to new product launches to ensure system processes match the programming requirements. This applies to all assigned programs across all Policy Administration Systems used to produce applications and policies in the designated states.
  • Responsible for developing programming requirements with sufficient detail to efficiently generate the data elements needed for proper evaluation of pricing, segmentation, overall program results, financial reporting, statistical reporting, and to support regulatory data call requirements for assigned states.
  • Assist with onboarding and technical development of department staff.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends in P&C insurance and share knowledge with the wider product and business teams.
  • Some travel might be needed.

 

 Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline.
  • Five years of experience in commercial lines product management within the insurance industry required.
  • Strong familiarity with ISO rules, forms, and regulatory filing processes, along with experience analyzing competitor filings and market data, is highly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of the P&C insurance industry, especially commercial lines, along with recent and comprehensive product development experience, and a proven track record of delivering successful programs that meet or exceed ROI expectations.
  • Strong ability to analyze data and identify trends. Experience with advanced data creation and analysis is highly preferred.
  • Ability to create and implement product strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders.
  • Understanding business principles and market dynamics.
  • Experience with development and submission of filing via SERFF and IRFS.
  • Experience and proficiency in working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously to deliver new programs accurately, on time, and within budget.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including but not limited to Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

 

Licenses and/or Certifications:

  • CPCU or similar insurance certification preferred
