Accounting Assistant / Accountant
A growing insurance agency is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant/Accountant to support the SVP of Finance & Accounting. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on accounting work in a fast-paced environment and wants to contribute directly to financial accuracy and operational success. The Accounting Assistant will perform daily accounting operations with a focus on cash posting, reconciliations, client billing, and payment tracking. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple priorities is essential. Experience within an insurance agency environment – particularly with AMS360 and ImageRight – is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Post cash receipts and client payments accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain daily cash logs and ensure proper allocation within AMS360.
- Process check runs, print checks, and manage vendor payments.
- Prepare and send client invoices, statements, and billing summaries.
- Track receivables and monitor overdue balances.
- Research and resolve client accounting discrepancies, including payment mismatches and unapplied cash.
- Handle direct bill processing using AMS360.
- Reconcile bank statements, trust accounts, and other financial accounts on a monthly basis.
- Reconcile carrier statements and resolve differences.
- Assist with month-end close, including preparing journal entries and supporting schedules.
- Maintain organized documentation in ImageRight and AMS360.
- Assist with data entry, file maintenance, and document indexing.
- Support the SVP in preparing internal accounting reports as needed.
Qualifications / Requirements
- 1–3 years of accounting experience (insurance agency experience preferred).
- Familiarity with AMS360 and ImageRight (or similar agency management systems).
- Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles (AR/AP, journal entries, reconciliations).
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to communicate clearly with internal teams and clients.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience with agency billing, direct bill workflows, or premium accounting.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Compensation Package
- Salary: $60K–$70K, depending on experience and qualifications.
