Job Summary:
The Underwriting Technology Supervisor plays a key role in overseeing user acceptance testing (UAT) for system updates and enhancements within proprietary systems used by the underwriting department. The supervisor will work closely with the Information Technology team to identify, test, and implement system changes to improve efficiency and accuracy. Additionally, this role involves managing a small team of underwriters, ensuring that all workflows meet service expectations, and providing ongoing support and training to enhance underwriting operations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for system updates, new features, and bug fixes in underwriting systems.
- Draft specifications for IT teams to implement system changes or resolve bugs.
- Supervise and provide technical guidance to underwriting staff, including training and mentoring.
- Assist with underwriting referrals and manage the overall workflow of the underwriting unit.
- Ensure underwriters adhere to service level objectives and authority limits.
- Contribute to the labeling of data for machine learning purposes in AI underwriting algorithms.
- Evaluate workflows to meet service expectations for referral and post-bind review processes.
- Supervise daily underwriting activities, including performance management, training, and disciplinary actions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve business production and profitability goals.
- Recommend and implement improvements to underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Manage and foster a results-oriented team culture focused on business growth and customer experience.
- Adapt to changes in underwriting processes, guidelines, and technology as part of a dynamic work environment.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Property & Casualty underwriting.
- At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to operate with ambiguity.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); Visual Basic knowledge is a plus.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and within teams.
- Familiarity with underwriting processes, including auditing, risk exposure analysis, and compliance.
- Knowledge of machine learning and AI in the context of underwriting is beneficial.
