About the Opportunity

Our client, a leading Property & Casualty Insurance Carrier, is seeking an experienced Total Loss Claims Manager to lead a high-performing team responsible for the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of automobile total loss claims. This leadership role will oversee claim operations, drive performance metrics, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide coaching and development to a team of Total Loss Adjusters and Supervisors.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in total loss claim handling, actual cash value (ACV) evaluations, salvage operations, title processing, and settlement negotiations, along with a proven track record of claims leadership and operational excellence. Total loss management typically includes oversight of ACV evaluations, settlement negotiations, salvage recovery, cost control, quality assurance, and staff development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent industry experience.
  • 7+ years of Auto Physical Damage and/or Total Loss Claims experience.
  • 3+ years of Claims Leadership experience, including direct people management.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Total Loss regulations and state-specific requirements
    • ACV methodologies and valuation tools
    • Salvage and title processing
    • First-party and third-party auto claims
    • Claims litigation and regulatory compliance
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop claims professionals.
  • Experience managing claim quality, operational metrics, and financial performance.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with claims management systems and valuation platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Total Loss Claims Adjusters, Senior Adjusters, and Team Leads.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Total Loss unit, ensuring timely and accurate claim resolution.
  • Monitor claim inventory, productivity, cycle times, quality metrics, and customer service standards.
  • Review and approve high-exposure, complex, and escalated total loss claims.
  • Ensure compliance with state regulations, company guidelines, and claims best practices.
  • Manage Actual Cash Value (ACV) evaluations, settlement authority, salvage disposition, title processing, and vendor relationships.
  • Analyze department performance and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce claim costs.
  • Conduct file audits, quality reviews, and performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with SIU, Legal, Underwriting, Compliance, and Claims Leadership on complex matters.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for customer complaints, disputed valuations, and regulatory concerns.
  • Develop and execute training programs for new and existing staff.
  • Assist with catastrophe response planning and workload management during surge events.
