Commercial Auto Claims Examiner
Job Summary
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Auto Claims Examiner to join a team. This role involves managing and processing governmental entity automobile liability losses, investigating claims, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and state regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in liability claims handling, particularly in auto liability claims, and a preference for experience with government entities or municipalities.
Compensation Package
- Salary: $75,000 - $80,000+ (depending on experience) + bonus opportunities
Responsibilities
- Receive and process governmental entity automobile liability losses.
- Investigate personal and commercial property and casualty claims as assigned.
- Ensure timely processing of claims in compliance with industry fair claims practices and applicable state regulations.
- Review policy provisions to determine coverage for losses.
- Obtain police and medical reports, appraisals, witness statements, and estimates for bodily injury and property value.
- Assign and direct outside adjusters and other professionals as needed.
- Select attorneys to defend company and insured interests on pending claim files.
- Negotiate settlements within authorized limits and submit recommendations for larger settlements to senior management for approval.
- Direct the issuance of settlement checks and obtain liability releases for adjusted claims.
- Manage claim-related expenses and establish/adjust loss reserves on pending cases.
- Communicate case status and rationale with senior management through written and oral reports.
- Stay updated on industry developments, legal opinions, and changes in state laws.
- Travel and work beyond normal business hours as required.
Qualifications/Requirements
- 5-10 years of experience in liability claims handling, with a preference for auto liability claims (both property damage and bodily injury).
- Associate’s degree preferred.
- Active Adjuster’s License with the state of South Carolina or reciprocal state.
- Preference for candidates with experience handling claims for government entities or municipalities (e.g., school buses, fleet cars, ambulances, dump trucks, ranger vehicles, police cars, fire trucks, etc.).
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work onsite 100% of the time.
