Accounting Specialist

Job Description

Reputable and longstanding agency in New York is currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join their team. In this role, you will work to ensure efficient operations in areas such as auditing, compliance, agency billing, accounts payable (AP), and accounts receivable (AR). The ideal candidate will be highly organized, able to multitask effectively, and possess a solid understanding of accounting and bookkeeping principles.

Candidate must understand general ledger, journal entries, reconciliation on bank accounts, payroll, P&Ls, etc. Insurance agency accounting is a preferred. Must have experience with Applied EPIC. 

Responsibilities:

• Data entry, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Assist with commission downloads and payments.
• Conduct audits and ensure compliance with financial regulations and industry standards.
• Support the management of accounts payable and receivable processes.
• Prepare and process invoices and payments.
• Perform regular checks to ensure accuracy and consistency of account records.
• Must have experience with Applied EPIC
• Prepare financial statements, budgets, and tax filings.
• Stay updated on relevant industry laws and regulations.
• Communicate with insurance carriers to resolve any discrepancies or issues.

• Monday to Friday 8:30-4:30
• Hybrid- M-Thur in office. Friday remote

Responsibilities

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with new and existing clients
• Analyze clients' insurance needs and develop comprehensive risk management strategies
• Negotiate and place policies with insurance carriers to meet clients' coverage requirements
• Collaborate with underwriters and producers to ensure timely and accurate policy issuance and account management
• Review and analyze insurance contracts, endorsements, and audits to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy
• Keep abreast of industry trends, insurance products, and market changes to provide proactive and innovative solutions to clients
• Provide exceptional customer service and respond promptly to client inquiries and service requests
• Develop and implement retention strategies to increase client satisfaction and maintain a high level of client retention
• Meet and exceed sales targets and revenue goals through cross-selling opportunities and account rounding

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
• 3+ years of experience in commercial insurance account management or related field
• Proven track record of success in cultivating and managing commercial insurance accounts
• Strong understanding of commercial insurance products, coverages, and underwriting processes
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
• Proficiency in insurance agency management systems and Microsoft Office suite
• A valid insurance license and relevant industry certifications (e.g., CIC, CRM) is a plus
