Job Title: Director - East Coast Ocean Marine Hull & Liabilities Underwriter
Job Summary: The Director of Ocean Marine Hull & Liabilities Underwriting will oversee the underwriting processes for a designated group within the product line. This role involves underwriting, monitoring commercial accounts, and developing strategies to manage risk exposure. The position also includes responsibilities related to marketing, staff development, and driving key initiatives that align with the company’s overall objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and direct all aspects of the underwriting process for a designated group within the Ocean Marine Hull & Liabilities product line.
- Develop and implement a strategic marketing plan to target new brokers, arrange meetings, and represent the company at industry functions.
- Manage, mentor, and develop underwriting staff to enhance team performance and professional growth.
- Conduct and monitor risk analysis to identify potential underwriting opportunities or risks.
- Evaluate, accept, decline, rate, quote, and bind new or renewal submissions with a focus on commercial accounts.
- Lead special underwriting projects and other duties as required by management.
- Provide strategic guidance on underwriting processes to senior leadership.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in underwriting, with a focus on Ocean Marine Hull & Liabilities or a similar field.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to apply underwriting methods and strategies.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience managing and developing a team of underwriters.
- Proficient in using underwriting software to analyze and manage large volumes of data.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present findings and recommendations to senior management.
- Ability to take a strategic approach to enhance underwriting functions and overall risk management.
Compensation Package
- Salary: $180K - $250K per year (based on experience).
- Bonus structure: Performance-based bonus opportunities.
- Profit-sharing: Up to 15% based on company performance.
