Job Description
- Underwrite new and renewal middle market commercial accounts across assigned lines of business (Property, Casualty, Package, etc.).
- Analyze risk characteristics and determine acceptability, pricing, and coverage options.
- Collaborate with brokers and agents to negotiate terms, build relationships, and develop profitable business opportunities.
- Maintain a profitable book of business in accordance with company guidelines and underwriting authority.
- Identify cross-sell and account rounding opportunities within existing accounts.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior underwriters or underwriting assistants as needed.
- Monitor industry trends and contribute to underwriting strategy and product development.
- Ensure compliance with internal underwriting guidelines, regulations, and file documentation standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum 3–5 years of commercial underwriting experience, with a focus on middle market risks.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, coverage forms, rating methodologies, and market dynamics.
- Experience with broker distribution in the regional or national market.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage a high-volume workflow while maintaining attention to detail.
- Proficiency in underwriting systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Professional designations such as CPCU, AU, or ARM are a plus.
