Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Middle Market Underwriter. The Middle Market Underwriter will play a crucial role in evaluating and assessing risks associated with middle-market insurance policies, ensuring profitability and compliance with company guidelines.

Job Description

  • Underwrite new and renewal middle market commercial accounts across assigned lines of business (Property, Casualty, Package, etc.).
  • Analyze risk characteristics and determine acceptability, pricing, and coverage options.
  • Collaborate with brokers and agents to negotiate terms, build relationships, and develop profitable business opportunities.
  • Maintain a profitable book of business in accordance with company guidelines and underwriting authority.
  • Identify cross-sell and account rounding opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior underwriters or underwriting assistants as needed.
  • Monitor industry trends and contribute to underwriting strategy and product development.
  • Ensure compliance with internal underwriting guidelines, regulations, and file documentation standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of commercial underwriting experience, with a focus on middle market risks.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, coverage forms, rating methodologies, and market dynamics.
  • Experience with broker distribution in the regional or national market.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a high-volume workflow while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in underwriting systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Professional designations such as CPCU, AU, or ARM are a plus.
