E&S Underwriter
Job Summary
Seeking a motivated and detail-oriented E&S Underwriter to evaluate, analyze, and underwrite commercial Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines of business. This position focuses on ensuring profitable growth while delivering exceptional service to clients. The role requires collaboration with a team to assess risks, build strong business relationships, and provide innovative solutions tailored to unique customer needs.
Responsibilities
- Assess and analyze risks in commercial Excess & Surplus (E&S) insurance applications to determine policy terms, coverage, and pricing.
- Underwrite new and renewal business within delegated authority limits while adhering to company guidelines and compliance standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and business partners to support business development and grow E&S lines profitably.
- Leverage underwriting expertise to craft tailored insurance solutions for non-standard risks.
- Contribute to regional and market strategies by identifying trends, opportunities, and challenges in the E&S marketplace.
- Partner with internal teams, such as claims, product management, and actuarial teams, to evaluate portfolio performance and enhance underwriting decisions.
- Ensure accurate documentation of underwriting decisions in compliance with company and regulatory policies.
- Stay informed on industry trends, market conditions, and legal and regulatory updates impacting E&S operations.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
- 2+ years of experience in underwriting, specifically within commercial lines or E&S insurance.
- Strong knowledge of commercial insurance lines, particularly in Excess & Surplus (E&S) markets.
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to evaluate complex risks and craft creative solutions.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and trust with clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other insurance industry software and tools.
- Professional designations such as CPCU, RPLU, or AU are a plus.
- Experience with a diverse range of clients and industries within the E&S market.
