Contract Surety Bonds Underwriting Manager – New England

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced and dynamic Contract Surety Bonds Underwriting Manager to lead underwriting operations. This role involves managing portfolio profitability, driving branch growth, and providing leadership and development to a team of underwriters.

Compensation Package

  • Base Salary: $160,000 - $225,000

Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial statements, bank agreements, credit reports, and other underwriting information to assess risk.
  • Oversee branch profitability, retention, growth, and underwriting results.
  • Evaluate and approve surety credit decisions, including terms and conditions.
  • Provide guidance and review underwriting decisions made by team members.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with agents, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead, coach, and develop underwriting staff to achieve individual and team goals.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining underwriting discipline.
  • Make timely underwriting decisions with a high degree of integrity and accountability.
  • Travel throughout the New England territory to build and maintain relationships.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience (Finance, Accounting, or related discipline preferred).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 7 years in surety underwriting or a related field.
    • Prior leadership, mentoring, or management experience preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong financial analysis and credit assessment capabilities.
    • Experience reviewing contractor financials and evaluating contract surety risks.
    • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
  • Certifications: Professional designations such as AFSB, CPA, and/or RPLU are preferred.
