Job Summary

Seeking a detail-oriented Commercial Lines Field Underwriter to join a dynamic team. This role involves working collaboratively with agents, brokers, and internal teams to assess risks, ensure compliance, and foster positive client relationships. The position focuses on contributing to organizational growth by offering tailored insurance solutions aligned with customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and evaluate commercial insurance risks, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines, policies, and regulations.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with agents, brokers, and clients through field visits, phone consultations, and occasional in-person meetings.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to support business growth and achieve organizational objectives.
  • Conduct on-site risk assessments and inspections to evaluate exposures effectively.
  • Price and bind insurance policies using sound underwriting judgment to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Stay current with industry trends, market developments, and regulatory changes.
  • Provide training and guidance to agency personnel on underwriting processes and standards.
  • Prepare and present proposals, reports, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or a related field; equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a commercial lines underwriter or a related insurance role.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a focus on attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively build relationships.
  • Proficient in underwriting software, Microsoft Office Suite, and digital collaboration tools.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to travel as necessary to meet clients and brokers (valid driver’s license may be required).
  • Thorough understanding of commercial insurance products, principles, and risk management strategies.
  • Relevant insurance designations, such as CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) or AU (Associate in Commercial Underwriting), preferred but not mandatory.
