Job Summary

Seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental Underwriter to join a growing Environmental Team. In this role, you will be responsible for selecting profitable risks, managing a book of business, and building strong relationships with brokers and colleagues. You will evaluate new business opportunities, review underwriting information, and ensure that accounts align with the appetite and profitability goals.

Compensation Package

  • Mid-Level: $80,000 - $100,000 per year
  • Senior-Level: $120,000 - $170,000 per year
  • Comprehensive benefits package

Responsibilities

  • Underwriting: Process new business opportunities by triaging submission data, determining fit with appetite, and aligning target pricing with profitability needs. Manage assigned renewals by reviewing policy status, pricing, and updated information.
  • Customer Service: Provide exceptional service to agents by prioritizing tasks, responding to inquiries, preparing pricing using rating models, issuing detailed quotes, and resolving technical issues.
  • Agent Support: Assist agents in selecting appropriate coverage and responding to inquiries.
  • Policy Management: Review endorsements by evaluating the impact of changes and ensuring compliance with current policy conditions.
  • Collaboration: Work with other departments to explain, evaluate, and resolve common issues.
  • Team Contribution: Support team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements

Core Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of insurance contracts, basic accounting, risk management techniques, and state regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and software.
  • Ability to think critically, work independently, collaborate effectively, and solve problems efficiently.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in Risk Management, or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of industry experience as an underwriting assistant or at least 2 years of direct underwriting experience preferred.
