Managing Attorney – Staff Counsel (General Liability & Auto)

We are partnering with a well-established and highly rated property & casualty insurance carrier seeking a Managing Attorney – Staff Counsel to lead and build out a new office in Florida. This is a strategic leadership opportunity for an experienced litigation attorney with a strong background in general liability and auto defense.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience litigating commercial auto and general liability cases in Florida, and managing staff counsel operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all phases of litigation, from intake through trial and resolution
• Handle a reduced caseload of complex, high-exposure matters and lead key depositions and settlement discussions
• Establish litigation strategies, workflows, and performance standards to ensure high-quality outcomes
• Partner closely with internal claims teams on case strategy, escalation, and resolution planning
• Implement reporting structures, KPIs, and quality control processes to enhance operational effectiveness
• Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and corporate standards

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active license and in good standing with the Florida Bar.
• 10 years of civil litigation experience in auto and general liability defense including significant first-chair trial experience.
• 3 years of leadership experience.
• Experience setting up and leading a staff counsel office for an insurer in Florida is required.
• Experience handling bodily injury litigation.
• Strong knowledge of Florida law, civil procedure, and insurance defense strategy
• Demonstrated ability to build teams, drive litigation strategy, and deliver results aligned with business objectives
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and courtroom advocacy skills
