Job Summary

Seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Commercial Field Underwriter to join a dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating and analyzing risk for diverse commercial lines, maintaining long-term client relationships, and ensuring underwriting decisions align with both corporate policies and industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a customer-centric mindset, and the ability to collaborate across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate risks for commercial accounts in accordance with company underwriting guidelines and standards.
  • Conduct in-person inspections, assessments, and client meetings to better understand risk exposure and business operations.
  • Collaborate with agents, brokers, and clients to gather necessary data and provide exceptional service to policyholders.
  • Develop, negotiate, and manage policy terms, conditions, and pricing based on risk analysis and company objectives.
  • Monitor market trends and changes in the industry to inform underwriting strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies in all underwriting activities.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams such as Claims, Loss Control, and Actuarial to develop comprehensive risk solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Deliver training or mentor junior underwriters or team members as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Proven experience as an underwriter, preferably in commercial lines underwriting or field underwriting roles.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, guidelines, and local insurance regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with clients and internal teams effectively.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools and underwriting systems.
  • Ability to travel as required for on-site evaluations and client interactions.

Compensation Package

  • Compensation: Between $105K-$138K (based on experience).
