Job Title: Director - West Coast Inland Marine Hull & Liabilities Underwriter

 

Job Summary
The Director of West Coast Inland Marine Hull & Liabilities Underwriting will oversee and direct all aspects of the underwriting process within a specialized product line. This leadership role involves the development and execution of a marketing plan, managing and developing underwriting staff, and performing risk analysis. The Director will ensure accurate evaluation, acceptance, declination, rating, quoting, and binding of new and renewal submissions, with a focus on achieving business goals.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all underwriting activities within the Inland Marine Hull & Liabilities product line.
  • Develop and execute a strategic marketing plan to attract new brokers and clients, while attending relevant industry events and meetings.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor underwriting staff, fostering professional growth and improved team performance.
  • Conduct risk analysis to monitor and assess risk levels for all commercial accounts.
  • Evaluate, accept, decline, rate, quote, and bind new submissions and renewals in line with company policies and market conditions.
  • Participate in and lead special projects as required to improve departmental processes and underwriting efficiency.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on underwriting matters and team performance.

 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, insurance, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of underwriting experience in Inland Marine Hull & Liabilities or related insurance fields.
  • Proven ability to manage a team, with experience in training, coaching, and developing staff.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using software to process and analyze large data sets.
  • Excellent communication skills to present findings and recommendations to senior management.
  • Strategic thinking ability to enhance underwriting functions and improve operational efficiency.

 

Compensation Package

  • Salary: $175K - $250K per year (based on experience).
  • Bonus structure: Performance-based bonus opportunities.
  • Profit-sharing: Up to 15% based on company performance.
