Job Title: Senior Middle Market Underwriter

 

Job Summary:
The Senior Middle Market Underwriter will manage a portfolio of broker accounts, ensuring profitable growth and efficiency. This role involves underwriting new and renewal accounts, negotiating pricing and terms, and proactively managing capacity. The individual will provide expertise in product lines within the Middle Market business, underwrite international insurance programs, and apply their knowledge of catastrophe modeling and interpretation in relevant business lines.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage an assigned broker portfolio of accounts to achieve profitability and growth targets.
  • Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet organizational goals for revenue and profitability.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with producers to ensure competitive and profitable agreements.
  • Proactively manage capacity to maintain optimal underwriting performance.
  • Underwrite and evaluate natural catastrophe accumulations, interpreting scenarios using catastrophe modeling for applicable business lines.
  • Serve as a technical expert for product lines within the Middle Market business.
  • Underwrite international insurance programs as required for relevant lines of business.
  • Adhere to underwriting governance frameworks, including underwriting authorities, guidelines, and rules.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience underwriting Middle Market General Liability (GL), Auto, and/or Workers' Compensation.
  • Established relationships with brokers at a peer group level and within the market.
  • Specialized knowledge of regional and local insurance markets, including competitive landscapes.
  • Solid understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks affecting underwriting decisions.
  • Undergraduate degree in Economics, Finance, Insurance Management, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Completion of professional insurance qualifications (e.g., CPCU) is preferred.
