Job Description

Commercial Lines Account Executive / Assistant Underwriter:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Account Management and Client Support:

    • Assist account executives and producers in managing a portfolio of commercial clients.
    • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, responding to inquiries and providing policy details, endorsements, and updates.
    • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of insurance proposals, certificates of insurance, and renewals.
    • Build and maintain relationships with clients to ensure retention and satisfaction.
  2. Underwriting Assistance:

    • Support the underwriting process by gathering and analyzing necessary documentation, including applications, risk data, and financial statements.
    • Assist in preparing underwriting submissions to carriers and ensure the accuracy of all documentation.
    • Work with underwriters to evaluate the insurability of risks and help negotiate terms, coverage, and pricing with insurers.
    • Perform risk assessments and ensure all policy details are in line with client needs and carrier guidelines.
  3. Policy Issuance and Documentation:

    • Help create and issue insurance policies and endorsements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
    • Manage policy renewals, updates, and cancellations in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Review contracts and insurance terms to ensure they align with client agreements and business needs.
  4. Data Entry and Recordkeeping:

    • Maintain detailed and accurate client records, policy documentation, and underwriting files in the company’s CRM or policy management system.
    • Ensure all client and policy information is up-to-date, organized, and easily accessible.
    • Perform data entry tasks related to renewals, quotes, and other client interactions.
  5. Risk Assessment and Analysis:

    • Assist in assessing the risk factors associated with potential clients or renewals and work alongside senior underwriters to determine appropriate coverage and pricing.
    • Analyze insurance proposals and provide input on the best coverage options based on the client’s specific business needs.
  6. Collaboration and Coordination:

    • Work closely with producers, account executives, and underwriters to ensure client needs are met and policies are appropriately underwritten.
    • Coordinate with insurance carriers to obtain quotes and additional information, ensuring smooth and efficient underwriting and placement of policies.
  7. Compliance and Quality Control:

    • Ensure compliance with state regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
    • Review policies and paperwork to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all legal and underwriting requirements.
  8. Client Retention and Up-selling:

    • Assist in identifying opportunities to up-sell additional coverage or services to existing clients.
    • Participate in regular client meetings and reviews to ensure client satisfaction and identify potential coverage gaps.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or a related field (preferred).
  • Previous experience in commercial insurance or underwriting is highly desirable (1-3 years).
  • Knowledge of commercial insurance products, including property, liability, workers’ compensation, and business interruption coverage.
  • Insurance license (preferred, or willingness to obtain one).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with clients and carriers.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office Suite) and insurance management systems (CRM or policy management software).
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
