Lead Underwriter - Middle Market Marine
Job Summary
Seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Underwriter - Middle Market Marine to join A team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic and growing organization specializing in marine insurance. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in underwriting a diverse book of business, focusing on middle-market ocean marine accounts, including hull, protection and indemnity (P&I), excess, and pollution coverages. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, with the flexibility to work both on-site and remotely.
Compensation Package
- Salary: Up to $150,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities
- Underwrite and manage a middle-market book of business with a focus on ocean marine accounts, including hull, P&I, excess, and pollution coverages.
- Evaluate and analyze risks to determine appropriate coverage and pricing.
- Handle renewals and cross-sell additional products and services to existing clients.
- Collaborate with brokers and other stakeholders to ensure client satisfaction and business growth.
- Maintain functional knowledge of marine and commercial lines rating systems and primary insurance coverages.
- Provide exceptional service to clients while adhering to company underwriting guidelines and standards.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Education: Property & Casualty (P&C) license is mandatory. CPCU designation is highly encouraged.
- Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of marine hull and liability underwriting experience.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of marine insurance products and commercial primary insurance coverages.
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and brokers.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in relevant underwriting software and tools.
- Work Environment: Hybrid schedule with 2-3 days on-site in Norfolk, VA.
