Middle Market/Core Contract Surety Underwriter (Executive or AVP Level)
Job Summary
Seeking a highly motivated and experienced Middle Market/Core Contract Surety Underwriter to join a team at the Executive or AVP level. In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting and managing a significant book of business, building and maintaining strong broker relationships, and contributing to the growth and profitability of the organization. A substantial sign-on bonus will be offered to cover relocation costs if applicable.
Compensation Package
- Annual Base Salary: $98,000 - $220,000 (commensurate with experience and location)
- Performance Bonus: Up to 10% - 20% of annual base salary, depending on candidate level
- Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package, including:
- 401(k) match dollar-for-dollar up to 6%, plus an additional 3% at year-end
- AMEX company credit card for business expenses
- Relocation Support: Substantial sign-on bonus to cover moving costs (if applicable)
Responsibilities
- Underwrite and manage new and renewal Surety business within the Middle Market/Core Contract segment.
- Oversee a large portfolio of prominent accounts, ensuring profitability and growth.
- Develop and execute external marketing strategies to expand business opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agencies, particularly in the Northeast/New England region.
- Collaborate with internal teams to support cross-sell efforts and drive business development.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, insurance laws, and company policies.
- Work within established limits and authorities on assignments of varying complexity.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience in Middle Market/Core Contract Surety Underwriting.
- Proven track record of established broker relationships (retail and select brokers) in the Northeast/New England area.
- Experience underwriting Middle Market accounts with a range of $50M-$75M (candidates with $25M-$45M experience at top-tier carriers will also be considered).
- Strong sales execution mindset with a focus on achieving business goals.
- Professional designations such as CPCU and ARM are a plus.
- Candidates with experience at leading carriers such as Chubb, CNA, Travelers, or Liberty are highly desirable.
