Commercial Lines Associate Underwriter
Job Summary:
An established broker is seeking a skilled Commercial Lines Associate Underwriter to join their CL Underwriting Department. This role involves evaluating, classifying, and pricing risks, placing business with various markets, and supporting senior underwriters in daily operations. This position offers a challenging opportunity to apply commercial lines underwriting expertise in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate insurance applications, gather necessary information, and determine risk acceptability, coverage, and pricing within assigned authority levels.
- Liaise with carriers and retail agents to negotiate terms, gather additional data, and ensure compliance with guidelines.
- Assist senior underwriters with rating, correspondence, and endorsements.
- Maintain accurate electronic files and ensure policies are issued correctly.
- Interpret underwriting data and make recommendations based on financial standing, business operations, and loss experience.
- Handle policy endorsements, cancellations, and non-renewals in accordance with company and carrier policies.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining high service standards.
- Participate in training activities and contribute to process improvements within the commercial lines department.
- Uphold confidentiality and integrity in handling internal and external information.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- 3-5 years of prior experience in Commercial Lines Insurance.
- 1-3 years of experience in surplus lines insurance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a dynamic team environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and critical thinking abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic math skills.
- Familiarity with insurance terminology and the ability to analyze applications for necessary data.
- Capacity to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines aligned with department goals.
